It’s time to appreciate creativity, depth and texture as we hit those cooler days.

We've had an influx of Granite Lane lovers not knowing where to start when it comes to their rug selection lately, so we decided to jump on here to help.

If you're keen to add some personality, depth and texture to your space, we’ve got you covered (literally and metaphorically).

When it comes to choosing the right rug for your home, we know it can be a bit daunting. The right rug will pull a space together and is something you can keep for years (no pressure, right?). Here are a few points to help you get started...

First, let's think practically
How do you intend to use the room? How much foot traffic will the rug incur? Do you have pets? Kids? Or what about a partner who always seems to have dirt on their shoes? (That's a serious question and will most likely not end in ivory).

Size & shape matters
Another practical matter that can be easily determined with the right guidance (hello). The size and shape of your rug should depend on three main factors: the size of your room, your furniture placement and the rug’s function.

Placement calls the shots
Rugs come in many materials, with varying characteristics related to how well they wear and how easy they are to clean. If the rug is in an entry hall or under the kitchen table, consider something that’s a little more robust. Let’s say this one together - thick pile knotted rugs are not your friend when there’s wine or pizza nearby.

Read the room
Your rug should complement the aesthetic of your space by matching the colour, style and finish of your furniture selections. Sit and appreciate the colours and textures already present in your home and think how you can expand on that.

Tip: Unless you have the time, money and energy to completely recreate your space, it’s a good idea to have your rug suite your existing space.

.. Or just come into Granite Lane and we will help you completely recreate your space.

Measure once and measure again
Perhaps one of the most overlooked aspects of learning how to choose a rug, but one of the most necessary. Get out the tape measure and get the right dimensions. We'll help with the rest.

Be more socially conscious
Did you know the Granite Lane rug collection is designed in Perth and carefully crafted in India by skilled people whose talent has been passed down for generations? Not only are these beauties carefully made but ethically sourced and proudly GoodWeave certified.

*The GoodWeave label means that no child, forced or bonded labour was used in the making and that your purchase supports programs that educate children and ensure decent work for adults.*

Last but not least...
Have fun with it and embrace your creativity. Play around with colours, textures shapes and sizes. Think about things in your world that delight and inspire you and reference them in your selection. After all - you'll be looking at it every day!

We've only just scratched the surface...
There is SO much to consider when it comes to selecting your rug. If you're still feeling a little overwhelmed, don't worry, you can book in with the team for an in-home rug consult ($95). But that's practically free, given the cost of your consult is fully redeemable from the purchase of your Granite Lane rug.

See you next week!
