Mirror Care Best Practices You Should Be Doing
If you've ever browsed an op shop or antique store, you've likely noticed that mirrors often don't age gracefully!
From scratches to discoloured edges, known as delivering, mirrors can show signs of wear if not properly maintained. Fortunately, by following a few key practices (or by purchasing a Studio Mirror) you can keep your mirrors looking pristine for many years!

Here are our top tips for prolonging the life of your mirror:
1. Select the Right Cleaner
Not all cleaners are mirror-friendly. Some can be too harsh and damage the surface and edges. Avoid acidic or alkaline cleaners and those with a high ammonia content. Instead, consider using natural cleaners or making your own for a cost-effective solution.
2. Keep Mirror Edges Dry
Desilvering occurs when moisture seeps under the edges of the mirror, damaging the protective coating and causing black spots or discolouration. This is especially common in bathrooms due to steam. To prevent this, ensure the joints and edges of your mirror remain dry!
3. Avoid Spraying Cleaner Directly on the Mirror
Spraying cleaner directly onto the mirror can cause it to drip and seep into the edges. To prevent this, spray the cleaner onto a cloth first and then wipe the mirror. This prevents damage and ensures a streak-free shine.
4. Use Soft Cleaning Cloths, Preferably Microfibre
Microfibre cloths are ideal as they minimise streaks and are gentle on the mirror's surface. Avoid using textured or abrasive cloths that could scratch the glass.
Years from now, you'll be glad you took these precautions to keep your mirror looking like new!
